Career Opportunity and Primary Roles / Responsibilities
The Hardware Development Manager is responsible for building, managing, and leading a multidisciplinary Hardware Engineering team supporting the development of embedded aerospace electronic systems. The role oversees project execution, resource planning, technical delivery, certification compliance, and team development while ensuring projects meet cost, schedule, quality, and performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Build and structure hardware development teams to support aerospace projects.
Plan, coordinate, and monitor engineering activities across hardware, FPGA, signal processing, and test disciplines.
Lead resource allocation, workforce planning, and team performance management.
Ensure successful delivery of design, verification, integration, and certification activities.
Coordinate technical deliverables and interface with project stakeholders, including Project Design Authorities, Systems Engineering Managers, and Work Package Managers.
Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, and engineering estimates.
Oversee hardware architecture and electronic board development, including FPGA-based solutions.
Collaborate with PCB manufacturers and EMS partners to ensure manufacturability (DFM).
Support compliance with aerospace standards and certification processes.
Drive continuous improvement and engineering best practices across the organization.
Required Competencies
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
10 to 15 years of experience in electronic hardware and FPGA development for critical systems.
Several years of experience leading technical engineering teams and complex development projects.
Strong expertise in embedded electronic hardware design within regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, medical, or space.
Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and external suppliers.
Familiarity with DO-254, ARP4754A, and aerospace certification processes.
Knowledge of DO-160 environmental qualification testing (EMI/EMC, vibration, temperature).
Understanding of avionics architectures and communication protocols such as ARINC 429, AFDX, and CAN.
Experience preparing technical specifications, verification plans, design reviews, and customer-facing technical presentations.
Experience working in international and multicultural environments.
Miscellaneous Requirements
The work model is hybrid (at least 3 days at the office).
Professional proficiency in spoken and written French is mandatory.
Knowledge of English is required to communicate and work with customers outside the province of Quebec. / La connaissance de l'anglais est requise pour communiquer et travailler avec nos clients situés à l'extérieur de la province de Québec.
