Career Opportunity and Primary Roles / Responsibilities

• Experience with digital payload systems and digital communications

• Understanding of interaction and integration between payload subsystems

• Strong knowledge of GN&C and spacecraft subsystem trimetry

• Solid systems engineering capabilities with ability to interpret mission‑level requirements

• Hands‑on experience in satellite systems engineering

• Roles are part of MDA’s work on three major satellite constellations supporting cutting‑edge missions

• Lightspeed Broadband Constellation: delivering global high‑speed connectivity using advanced digital payloads

• High‑capacity data networks: moving gigabytes of data through sophisticated payload systems and high‑speed ground terminals

• Earth Observation Missions: radar‑based ground imaging to monitor ice‑shelf changes, detect wildfires, and provide environmental insights

• Engineers receive end‑to‑end involvement from Phase 0 design through launch and orbit operations

• Detailed spacecraft design, assembly, and integration

• Deployment and launch management to orbital position

• Engineering of key satellite subsystems including GN&C, electrical power distribution, payload and antenna subsystems, and electrical propulsion systems

• Hands‑on work with spacecraft software maintenance to ensure mission continuity and system reliability in orbit

• The Telecommunication Payload Systems Engineer is responsible for design, analysis, implementation, optimization, and enhancement of end‑to‑end communication digital payload systems and subsystem elements

• Support or lead technical projects and end‑to‑end telecommunications systems engineering activities via satellite, providing flexibility in connectivity and capacity

• Support the design of communication satellite payloads from conventional RF bent‑pipe payloads to digital onboard processing payloads (transparent or regenerative)

• Generate or support system requirements definition and subsystem specifications for RF and digital equipment, including digital channel processor specifications, DRA phased antennas with analog or digital beamforming, high‑capacity multiple spot‑beam systems, and flexible payloads including multi‑port amplifiers

• Perform requirement analysis and system trade studies

• Perform link and performance budget calculations and evaluate satellite throughput

• Generate and supervise methods, standards, plans, and procedures for systems engineering tools and system tests for payloads with digital channel processing

• Support design reviews

Required Competencies

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent.
• This position requires a minimum of 4 to 8 years of experience in digital equipment, signal processing and Networking (i.e. DTN, MPLS, routing protocols & Class of Service, DVB), the knowledge of 5G NTN, RF and system payload design will be considered favorably.
• Knowledge of simulation tools (Matlab, Simulink, UML, STK, etc.) and operating systems (Linux, etc..)
• Knowledge of software development with Agile method
• Knowledge of the Architectures and operation of SDR (Software Defined Radio)
• Demonstrated experience in leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams is desired.
• Excellent communication, technical writing, and oral presentation skills.
• French required, English fluency would be an asset (Contact with customers outside Québec).
• Excellent interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and self-motivation.
• Strong analytic, technical and problem solving skills.
