Career Opportunity and Primary Roles / Responsibilities
The Digital Architect will design and implement digital solutions, focusing on telecommunications payloads and systems. They will be involved in proposal efforts, front-end design, detailed analysis, and the development of digital channelizing and on-board processing. This role also involves evaluating payload throughput, link budgets, and integrating/testing end products.
Depending on the job function, the Digital Architect will perform and participate in the following tasks and activities depending on the background and experience of the candidate:
- Define overall Satellite & Payload, communications between the various sub-systems,
- System Design and Architecture: Designing, analyzing, implementing, optimizing, and enhancing end-to-end communication digital payload systems and subsystems.
- Technical Expertise: Developing digital channelizing and on-board processing design specifications.
- Perform link and performance budget calculations and evaluate satellite throughput.
- Define electrical interface control documentation for power, analog, digital & RF connections between Platform and Payload units & subsystems
- Support electrical analyses, budgets & design details related to power generation, storage & distribution
- Identify failure modes & effects analyses and support failure detection, isolation & recovery activities
- Support Platform test activities including preparation and/or review of test plans, procedures & reports
- Perform requirement analysis and system trade studies for communication satellite payloads.
- Support writing of systems engineering documentation including requirements specifications, statement of compliance, verification matrix and design descriptions
- Support satellite development activities: concept of operations and communication Payload integration on Platform
- Support various program reviews: EQSR, SRR, PDR and CDR
Required Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- Good understanding of FPGA design concepts
- Good understanding of Embedded Software concepts, preferably using embedded Linux
- Excellent expertise in networking (Ethernet+TCP\IP+MPLS)
- Expertise in RF radio communications (5G, DVB-S2X, DVB-RCS2) is a plus
- Team Leadership is a must
Miscellaneous Requirements
- Understanding of the space environment, communication satellites, radio frequency (RF) equipment and the various solar cell & battery technologies
- Effective communication skills, as this role requires explaining complex system
- Methodical, structured, capable of understanding and following complex design processes with multiple teams
- Ability to simplify the operation of complex systems and explain how these work
- Ability to lead and/or mentor junior members of the engineering team
- Demonstrated capability to efficiently work with little to no supervision
- Strong written and verbal communications skills in English, knowledge of French will be considered favorably
- Work can be done remotely.
- For employees based in Montreal, the work model is hybrid (at least one day at the office).
- The position might require travel to visit customers (in North America)
Knowledge of English is required to communicate and work with customers outside the province of Quebec. / La connaissance de l'anglais est requise pour communiquer et travailler avec nos clients situés à l'extérieur de la province de Québec.
